Chadwick Boseman, la star du film Black Panther de Marvel, est décédé à l’âge de 43 ans ce vendredi 28 août 2020. L’acteur a succombé à un cancer du colon diagnostiqué en 2016. D’après un communiqué officiel publié sur ses réseaux sociaux, « il est mort chez lui, entouré de sa femme et de sa famille ».
On apprend également qu’« entre d’innombrables opérations et la chimiothérapie », l’acteur américain, décrit comme « un vrai combattant » par ses proches, a enchaîné les tournages, comme pour les films Da 5 Bloods (2020) et Marshall (2017), sans jamais se plaindre ou évoquer publiquement sa maladie. « Cela a été un honneur dans sa carrière de donner vie à T’Challa dans Black Panther », peut-on lire dans le communiqué.

Le film Black Panther a en effet marqué la pop culture et la culture afro-américaine, puisqu’il s’agit de la première adaptation des aventures du roi T’Challa, le premier super-héros noir de l’univers Marvel. Le film avait rassemblé un casting de rêve et reçu trois récompenses aux Oscars.
Depuis l’annonce de son décès, les hommages se sont multipliés sur la toile. Des anonymes, mais aussi beaucoup de stars hollywoodiennes saluent son courage et son talent : Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Omar Sy, Brie Larson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemswoth, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Pratt et même Joe Biden. L'acteur Chris Evans, alias Captain America dans Avengers, se dit "totalement dévasté" par la nouvelle : « Chadwick était spécial. Un vrai. Il était un artiste profondément investi et constamment curieux. Il avait encore tellement de choses à accomplir. Je suis infiniment reconnaissant d’avoir pu le compter parmi mes amis. Repose avec le pouvoir, mon Roi ».
